Wesly Snipes Goes To Jail

The news media has been quiet about Wesley Snipes reported issues with the IRS about him not paying taxes. The last three years Wesley has been battling with the courts about his rights regarding him paying taxes. Snipes believes that taxes are a fraud and that he is not obligated to pay his taxes. Well, after months of ligation Snipes was sentenced to three years in jail for not paying his taxes.

Record Label Artist Control

Record labels are losing control of a lot of artist today. Artist today are feeling the independent spirit. Record labels have created the 360 deals to combat the lost of record sales. The 360 deal allows the record company to get a percentage of the artist other endorsement royalties. Artist control diminishes when you signed with a record label. A company like American Idol gets control and a percentage of all the money that the artist makes from other endorsement.

T.I. who has been in jail now for several months just released his latest project. No Mercy was released at the beginning of December has only sold around 145-160,000 copies. I said this before that until T.i. get focused and gets rid of all the bullshit he will continue to have only medicore success with the music.

Ice Cube Too Short and E40 the Making of 21st Century G

The Power 106 fm Cali Christmas Concert just passed and some of your biggest names in hip hop graced the staged. Waka flocka, Rick Ross, and a host of others were in attendance to do their dance on stage. But, what I found to be most interesting was that veteran artist like Ice Cube Too Short and E40 were rapping as well. These are some guys who have been rapping since hip hop began and they are still rapping twenty years later after all the wealth and fame that they have had with their careers. Too Short has put out more albums than any other artist to date. I am really amazed at how focused and centered these artist are about the music.

E40 has been repping the bay area for years. The reason I say these dudes are 21st century G's is because it takes some balls and guts to continue to want to rap and even still be loved by fans after twenty plus years in the game. The funny part is they don't show no signs of letting up, when most rappers do two or three albums and holler im retiring these dudes still keep dropping heat all over again.

Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday Wack

Man what is it to be beautiful and have every man wanting to sex you, but your first album release is wack, and not getting the attention or the sales. Nicki Minaji just dropped here first release a few weeks back, but the hip hop community is saying her album is wack. Rappers around the globe have been waiting to her Nicki put together a full project. She has been featured on albums by Drake, Lil'Wayne, Kayne and many others. Nicki's featured appearances have been deamed hot, but for some reason she dropped the ball on concepts and creativity when putting her album together.

A friend of mine made a little joke on Facebook by saying if "You Want The Pink Friday album it will be on the side highway 285 in Atlanta." This is not a good luck for someone who just started a beef with The Queen B little Kim. The Queen B has been in the game for over 15 years and most of her work is pretty good. Nicki has not been able to deliver a quality project and this may hurt her career. Now most of you know if you can't get pass the freshman, and sophomore jinx then your music career is pretty much over.

Are You To Old to Rap

I was having a conversation with an artist on how to really build her situation inside the music industry. Many artist reach a point in their career when the industry (corporations) begins to push you out of, and no longer want to support your artistry. The question is are you to old to rap? When hip hop started in the late seventies no one really took it as a valuable source for income until the corporations got behind it and push it through the main stream media.

In the late 80's hip hop started to sky rocket with groups like Run DMC and Ice T NWA gained world wide acceptance from the public and major record labels. Now its been thirty years later, and many of these same artist are still rapping and selling records. For example, Ice Cube just released I Am The West, and Dr. Dre is set to release Detox some time in the spring. May of these artist are now in their forties and still have a fan base of people who enjoy their music.

The thing that I was trying to explain to this sista was that the corporations are only interested in making money off your talent. You can build and audience for your music and still make a decent living off of ones talent without the corporations involvement. After she listen to what I was preaching she got a different take on the music industry and realized she wasn't really to old to rap.

Steve Jobs controls the music industry now with Apple Itunes. In order to get in to the game record companies have agreed to sale music for 99cent. Record Companies executives have let technology dictate what gets sold and bought. Many record companies are making billions of dollars a year, and for some reason don't want to create their won platform to sale the music that they create. Apple I tunes controls 90% of the market share for music being sold right now.

Planned Propaganda in Hip hop

Many of you have probably heard about the beef between Mc Hammer and Jay Z, or the beef between Little Kim and Nicki Minaji. What most people have to understand is that when a person has an album coming out and a artist needs publicity then you will hear about beef or drama to lure you into buying their album. For example, Mc Hammer has not put out work in years, but he has an album coming out. He knows he can't really out rap Jay Z but he needs Jayz brand inorder to get some publicity to help with his album sales. Nicki Minaj has an album coming out and has chose to go in on Lil' Kim. Many people don't understand the propaganda machine. Many artist need drama or some form of bullshit to meet the labels expectation on album sales.

The book called the "Art of War" by a great chines warrior layed out details on how to attack and enemy in time of war. Its all strategy many artist have probably talked to each other on the phone before the beef even begin inorder to plan out how this situation would play out. Do you remember 50cent and Kayne had a beef about who would sale the most albums. In the end these two slaves made alot of money for the record companies that they worked for. So next time you hear about the beef between two artist just know that it is probably planned out.

Russell Simmons the God father of hip hop has filed a lawsuit against has done business with Asian companies and found that they are not representing his mass appeal in a way that they should.

New York, New York, September 9, 2010 - Russell Simmons today announced that his companies have filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the State of New York against The Millwork Trading Co. LTD (Li & Fung, USA) for fraud and breach of contract in connection to the "American Classics By Russell Simmons" and "Russell Simmons Argyleculture" trademarks. The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $55 million.

In today's society where money is hard to come by these rappers seem to keep acting an ass when its really not deemed necessary. The latest dude to in trouble again is T.I. who just released his new movie "Takers". Rappers going to jail seems to be the new hype now days with artist needing to keep their name in the media, but in T.I. case he keeps getting caught slipping for no apparent reason. Many artist are really showing their ass and its only in my opinion to get attention.

T.I.'s ecstasy arrest has caused a serious stink with some of his sponsors -- in fact, TMZ has learned the people behind AXE body spray are considering kicking the rapper to the curb.
